2012: Eighteen Ohio.

By day three we had made it pretty deep into Ohio. We stopped in Cleveland but the rain was falling hard and by the time we had traveled a few more hours it was coming down in buckets. We stopped for the night at the Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark, Ohio. My wife saw its website online and thought it looked like a nice place to stop for the night. She was right. The grounds are lovely, even in the gray season, and the rooms are spacious, clean and well maintained. There is a modest gym and a nice pool on the grounds and in the summer time there is also a water slide. The Lodge also has a nice restaurant on the property where we had breakfast. All in all it was a great experience.

It was here that my first encounter with Kismet struck. It turns out that Newark, Ohio is where the Ohio Central Railroad and the Columbus & Ohio River Railroads have facilities. I found this out by Googling Newark, Ohio and railfan, up popped a few sites discussing the local possibilities. After breakfast and a few minutes of sitting by the fire with my Little Helper, we were off to see what could be seen in Newark.

Following the map we chanced upon a crew putting their train together in downtown Newark, Ohio.

At the yard we caught B-23 4093 in Ohio Central colors.
After we took these it was back on the road for Indiana... and our nineteenth state.
