Ten: Rocky Mt., North Carolina, Friday, May 3, 2013.

Our trip southward continued and we stopped to take a break in Rocky Mt. It is a nice little town in that southern style of having a row of brick businesses facing a main street with a railroad running along side of it. The town's large brick train station hinted a past glory that suddenly came alive for me when I saw a headlight in the distance approaching from the south.

The headlight belonged to Amtrak's Silver Star, which was running a little late on its trip up the East Coast to New York City. The tardiness didn't rob the train of its grace or beauty. As the Silver Star pulled out I noticed another headlight approaching from the north...

A CSX manifest pulled into view as the Silver Star rolled out of town. I stood and watched the manifest roll by and as it entered the CSX yard at the south end of town, I noticed yet another headlight.
Which belonged to the northbound Carolinian. A pretty good haul for a rest stop.
