Four: New Jersey: January 28, 2024. A World in Motion

The trip from Boston to Baltimore takes about 90 minutes, maybe less on a good day. The trip by train takes about six hours but generates quite a bit more satisfaction. I suppose if airlines arranged their seats with the same care as Amtrak flying would be more pleasant. But we all know that isn’t going to happen.
A gift age bestows is patience. Or, perhaps, a better way to describe it is practiced indifference. Six hours on a train, staring out the window, writing in my journal, and reading books is vastly more entertaining and fulfilling than rushing around looking for importance. I don’t care as much about that part of the world that obsesses young people, so I don’t look at quiet solitude as lost time.
My colleagues at work were a bit surprised I wanted to take the train rather than a plane. But they still think they are going to make a difference in this world. Heh, darling youth.
Anyway, here is the view passing through New Jersey. The skies were dark and the rain coming down. Both the Acela I was riding on and the Path train were moving in opposite directions, so there is a bit of blur – a world in motion.
