Readville, Mass.

An MBTA commuter train heads toward Franklin, while a CSX local waits for its turn.
Readville, a part of Boston, is another one of my favorite places to go. It is an old flying junction and back in the day had an interesting looking brick train station. Readville was also home to the New Haven Railroad's shop complex. Both my grandfather and great-grandfather worked there, unfortunately both died before I was born, so I never got a chance to know them. Some of those old New Haven buildings are still around. Today, Readville is a great place to watch Amtrak and MBTA trains whipping by at speed on the Northeast Corridor and to watch MBTA commuters on two of the branch lines that stop there, as well as an occasional CSX local. CSX maintains a small yard a few hundred yards away from where the MBTA line crosses the NEC. The New Haven Historical and Technical Association has published quite a few fine articles and photos about Readville in its Shoreliner magazine.
