Ten: Mississippi
A northbound ``City of New Orleans'' passes through the grade crossings in Brookhaven, Mississippi.
The train will eventually travel 900 miles on its trip from New Orleans to Chicago. It covers a flag stop in Brookhaven and on this day there was no one waiting to board.
I liked this photo because I liked the way all the crossing gates just lined up and accentuated the feeling of distance. This is the old Illinois Central mainline and it is pretty straight. I saw some freights fly by in other places and when you looked down the tracks you could see a long way.
I also liked Brookhaven a lot. The Chamber of Commerce says it was named for Brookhaven, New York by its original founders.
