Eighteen: Connecticut

Many of my father's stories of his years in the Navy included a reference to the train station in New London. During the Korean War he was called back to active service and served aboard a submarine -- the USS Atule -- based out of New London. He and my mother were married about the same time, so he would often come ashore, get to the train station and catch a New Haven passenger job to Boston and when his time at home was up reverse the trip.

I was in New London to pick up my wife and daughter, who took the ferry to Long Island last week to visit my in-laws.
