Here are a couple of more shots from Como, Italy. We caught the train south to Florence on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The ticket agent was a nice guy who spoke flawless English, so I didn't need to attempt any Italian on him. The line to buy tickets was long, but he moved people along at a pretty good clip. The lines at the automated machines were also long.

The houses above the station. |
Como station is set back a little from downtown. It has an open, breezy feel to it and has a number of shops, a small restaurant -- more of a lunch counter -- and a police station. Across the tracks, there is a cliff with houses built on it. It's the kind of house I wouldn't mind living in. The view of the town, the lake and, of course, the train station must be marvelous.
As we were waiting a number of regional and local trains came through. Pretty soon it was time for us to head south for Milan, where we picked up another train to Florence. It is a trip I hope to make again some day.
